A lovely summer read
By Roso
After finding her boyfriend in a compromising position with another woman, Laurie decides to leave London behind and head home to Cornwall, to Sunset Bay and her sister. Mia Chapman has made a success of both she and her grandmother’s dreams in running Dolly’s Diner, a spot where the locals, and the visitors love to hang out. She’s not that thrilled to see her sister Laurie return. As far as Mia’s concerned, Laurie bailed at a time when Mia and her family needed Laurie most. Coming home now won’t change anything. Or will it? Once as close as only sisters can be, Laurie tries to find a way back into her sister’s heart. This is a lovely story, with Cornwall as a backdrop, and two sisters who finally find their way home

Review: 'A Home in Sunset Bay' by Rebecca Pugh
By Jody - "A Spoonful of Happy Endings"
Ever since the death of her beloved grandmother, Mia Chapman has run Dolly's Diner, the 50s style diner her grandmother started and loved with all her heart, in the lovely Cornish town of Sunset Bay. Mia has developed the same kind of passion for the diner and couldn't imagine living or working anywhere else. But Mia's life is suddenly disturbed when her older sister Laurie, whom she has hardly spoken to in years, arrives in town, looking for her. Laurie has been through quite a rough patch; no longer enjoying her London life, including her job and a cheating boyfriend. So, she decides to flee to Sunset Bay, hoping Mia will be able to help her out, even if it's just for a few weeks. However, Mia is still angry with her sister and not quite yet ready to forgive for something that happened in the past... Will they be able to work it out or will Laurie be forced to return back to where she came from?

It's always great to discover new authors whose stories leave me with a smile on my face and that's definitely what Rebecca Pugh's recently released 'A Home in Sunset Bay' did! This was the first book of Rebecca's that I've read, but it definitely won't be the last. If you're looking for a warm, lovely, captivating chick lit/romance read; look no further! 'A Home in Sunset Bay' focuses on the lives of sisters Mia and Laurie and is set in the small Cornish town of Sunset Bay. The setting is wonderful; it's cosy and just the typical type of small town where the people know and watch out for one another; I loved it and wish I could visit Dolly's Diner myself for a delicious piece of pie! It was easy to warm to both main characters Mia and Laurie and their stories were interesting, especially with the addition of secondary characters such as cooks Cal and Marco and waitress Polyanna.

The novel is quite fast-paced, which I really enjoyed. It doesn't focus on a few days but several months, giving the reader the chance to really see the characters develop and experience different things. I do think just a few extra twists could have been added to the storyline here and there, but I still really enjoyed it and was sad to leave the characters behind at the ending of the book. I already really look forward to checking out more of Rebecca's work and think she's a promising new voice within the genre! Overall, 'A Home in Sunset Bay' is a cosy, warm and uplifting story about family and friendship; a simply lovely read!

Ever since my friends read and loved her debut novel Return to Bluebell Hill
By Irena
I had Rebecca Pugh on my radar for quite some time. Ever since my friends read and loved her debut novel Return to Bluebell Hill, I just knew I had to check her out.
I'm not gonna lie to you: I went into this story with pretty high expectations.
Reading this book was like watching the life go by trough the mist. I could see things happening, but I never got involved enough to gasp, swoon, wonder what's going to happen or even feel, to be perfectly honest with you.
The writing style is pretty good and it do keeps you interested, but at the same time it does not sort itself out with it's beauty or uniqueness. Unfortunately, in my copy of this book, I didn't underline any sentences from this novel. Not because I was lazy to take notes, but because I didn't find any that appealed to me.
I would say that Pugh's style is detailed, but not too detailed. I think she managed to handle some situations in this book really good (like the cheating scene, where her character doesn't know how to react, and the writer makes us sympathise with the character but at the same time there is still that chick-lit feeling to it).
I also need to emphasize how perfectly the writer described the surrounding of the story. I think the scenes were captured pretty well and it almost felt like I was there at some moments (my favorite was how Dolly's Diner was described. Trust me, I am not lying when saying I wanted to be there).
Characters were likeable but not one of them made me care enough.
Still, there was one character that I didn't like, who was also a love interes tin the story. I think he was a s***ty boyfriend to his girlfriend and emotional cheater, so of course I wasn't satisfied that he was the only candidate for one of our main characters.
The story plot was predictable and, although I don't mind it in some cases, it felt like there wasn't enough drama or action trough the story to keep me satisfied. Some things that supposed to be issues between characters weren't that big of the deal in my eyes. Plus, I questioned the law aspect of this story, but since I am not from the same country as characters of the book, I don't think I am in the position to judge.
All in all, since this is only the second novel written by Rebecca Pugh, I think she has a lot of time to grow as a writer and I do believe she will only get better with time. I am looking forward to see where her writing career will take her and read more stories by her.
